Hesai’s ATX Lidar Obtains ISO 26262 Functional Safety Certification

June 26, 2025

Hesai Technology (NASDAQ: HSAI), a global leader in lidar solutions, announced that its ATX — a compact, high-resolution, long-range lidar — has obtained ISO 26262 ASIL B functional safety certification. Issued by SGS-TÜV, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification institution, this achievement paves the way for large scale ADAS deployment while advancing safety and upholding the industry’s highest standards.

Hesai’s other lidar products, Pandar128, QT128, and AT128, have all obtained ISO 26262 functional safety certification, making ATX the fourth addition to the company’s ISO 26262 certification portfolio. This milestone consolidates Hesai’s very own “Safety Triad” framework — a comprehensive, three-in-one safety system that integrates functional safety, SOTIF (Safety of the Intended Functionality), and cybersecurity into its lidar designs. With ATX now certified, Hesai holds the highest number of ISO 26262 certified products in the world.

International Accreditation Reinforces Hesai’s Leadership in the Industry

ISO 26262 is a key standard for the functional safety of electrical and electronic (E/E) systems in vehicles. It calls for carefully planned safety measures at every step of the development process — from safety management and concept design, to system, hardware, and software development. As vehicles become more dependent on E/E systems, ISO plays an important role in ensuring vehicle components adhere to the most stringent safety standards to reduce costly recalls and prevent passenger injuries.

SGS-TÜV initiated the ISO certification process during the early stages of ATX’s product design. In June, ATX successfully passed the certification, reaffirming Hesai’s commitment to safety and technological excellence throughout the entire development process.

Since its launch in April of 2024, ATX has captured strong interest across the automotive industry, securing design wins from 12 major OEMs as a standard component in their series production models. Since entering mass production in March 2025, the ATX has already surpassed 40,000 units in cumulative deliveries.

Prioritizing Lidar is Key to Ensuring Safety

As the shift toward intelligent driving gains momentum, lidar is establishing itself as a cornerstone technology for advanced safety systems. In 2024, 1.4 million out of 5.5 million EVs priced above 20,000 USD were equipped with lidar, reflecting a 25% penetration rate. This indicates that lidar has already “crossed the chasm” in certain market segments and is seeing growing adoption across the industry.

Given the increasing prevalence of intelligent driving, delivering reliable performance, particularly in complex driving scenarios, has become increasingly important. Lidar now plays a central role in ADAS and is a key consideration for OEMs. In response, safety standards and regulations must also be updated to support its integration.

Lastly, ATX’s achievement of ISO 26262 functional safety certification reflects years of dedicated work in the field of functional safety. It reflects Hesai’s belief that safety is non-negotiable and should never be compromised. Looking ahead, Hesai will continue to strengthen its safety capabilities and support the adoption of industry standards, delivering the best-in-class products to OEMs while ensuring the highest level of safety for passengers on the road.
